Movitoir Studios — a freshly founded Singapore production company with a mission to make magical storytelling through animation a reality — is launching its very first 3D animated feature film, Library of Mystory. And for their debut, they’ve pulled off quite a casting coup — Malaysian-born Christopher Lee and his Singaporean wife Fann Wong are reuniting on screen for the first time in 17 years, lending their voices as the Emperor and Empress in the film’s Tang dynasty-inspired world.

Who is Fann Wong?

For those who need a quick introduction — Fann Wong is one of Singapore’s most celebrated actresses, with a career spanning more than three decades in film, television and music. She is best known internationally for playing Chon Lin alongside Jackie Chan in the 2002 Hollywood blockbuster Shanghai Knights — making her the first Singaporean actress to play a major role in a Hollywood production.

Her husband, Malaysian-born Christopher Lee, is equally well known across the region — a veteran actor, host and businessman who has starred in numerous Chinese-language dramas and films across Singapore, Taiwan and mainland China. The couple married in 2009 and have a son together.

About Library of Mystory

Set in a vibrant fictional world inspired by the Tang dynasty, Library of Mystory follows Prince Cheng Xi — a carefree young royal who would rather spend his days on wrestling, archery and horse-riding than prepare for his royal responsibilities. With his birthday approaching and an imperial tradition requiring him to choose a bride, his parents the Emperor (Christopher) and Empress (Fann) enrol him at Tanglin Academy.

There he meets Si Yu, a smart young woman and the daughter of one of his teachers. Although they don’t get off on the right foot, the pair eventually work together after stumbling upon a hidden library and uncovering an ancient secret.

This also marks the first time the beloved real-life couple have done voice acting together for an animation — and Christopher’s first ever animated feature role.

The Cast

Alongside Christopher Lee and Fann Wong, Library of Mystory features a strong lineup of local Singapore talent including Clement Yeo, Lea Chong, Yokez, Leon Markcus, Timothy Wan, Alyssa Lie, Chia Dezhong, Audrey Luo, Bryan Ong, Michael Chua, Kelsey Tan and more.

Library of Mystory is set for release in June 2027.

With the addition of the Lite and Prime, the S70 now has 6 variants in its lineup — all launched in 2026 — making it one of the most comprehensive sedan ranges from a national carmaker in recent memory.

The turbocharged variants — priced from RM73,800 to RM94,800 — have earned the “Conti Killer” nickname for matching the performance of lower-end continental cars at a much cheaper price tag.

In the B-segment sedan space, the S70 is currently going head to head with rivals like the Honda City and Toyota Vios in an increasingly competitive price war — with each make offering heavy rebates and discounts to win buyers. The S70 is currently leading the segment in sales, proving that Proton’s value proposition is resonating with Malaysian car buyers.

Now with the Lite and Prime coming in at below RM60,000, Proton is set to widen the gap even further — moving the S70 into new territory entirely. These two new variants serve a dual purpose: acting as the natural upgrade for Proton Saga and other A-segment sedan owners looking to move up, while also stepping in as the direct replacement for the soon-to-be discontinued Proton Persona.

What We Know So Far

Final pricing and full specifications for the S70 Lite and Prime are yet to be confirmed — those details will only be revealed at the official launch, which Proton has not yet announced a date for.

What we do know is that customers who book and register either variant by December 31, 2026 will be eligible for an exclusive early bird reward — though the specifics of what that reward entails will also only be revealed at launch.

Bookings are open now at all authorised Proton dealers nationwide. If the pricing and specs live up to expectations, this could be one of the most significant Proton launches in recent years.

In his opening remarks, Mr. TSUKAMOTO Norihisa, Director of The Japan Foundation, Kuala Lumpur (JFKL), welcomed guests to the 22nd edition of JFF in Malaysia. He spoke about how the festival has grown into a platform for cultural and knowledge exchange between Malaysia and Japan, fostering deeper connections between the two countries through the power of cinema. He also highlighted the continued growth of the JFF Filmmaking Workshop, now in its third year, which gives students the chance to explore filmmaking and develop their creative talents.

During the Q&A session, Mr. TSUKAMOTO, alongside Ms. KUGAI Kyoko, Senior Program Officer of the Cultural Affairs Department at JFKL, fielded questions on the festival’s audience demographics over the years, as well as the selection behind this year’s two special programmes: the YAMADA Yoji Retrospective and Girl Power.

The Yamada Yoji Retrospective celebrates one of Japan’s most acclaimed filmmakers, known for works full of warmth, humanity and everyday life. The programme also marks Yamada Yoji’s 95th birthday and the 65th anniversary of his directorial debut. The Girl Power programme, meanwhile, highlights stories centred on female protagonists — not originally built around a specific theme, but one that came together naturally, with several titles inspired by real-life stories showcasing the strength of women from different walks of life.

JFF 2026 will tour across Malaysia at the following GSC cinemas and dates:

Iman’s very much building her own legacy. After performing at the AFC Asian Cup half-time show and singing before 42,000 people at Singapore’s recent National Day Parade, she recently shared a stage with Snoop Dogg himself at an invite-only TikTok LIVE event held at his private studio in Inglewood, California — marking the international debut of her new single “IT IS,” which just dropped on all streaming platforms. For a Singaporean act to land a stage like that alongside a name as big as Snoop Dogg is no small feat.

For younger audiences, Iman’s probably been on your radar for a while now through her music and acting career — but here’s the family history that makes her story even more interesting.

Fandi Ahmad was also a very popular footballer in Malaysia — he was part of a hugely successful Kuala Lumpur team alongside fellow Singaporean Malek Awab and Malaysian Serbegeth “Shebby” Singh , who went on to become a well-known football pundit after his playing career from the late 90s until his passing in 2022. That KL side won the Malaysia Cup three years running from 1987 to 1989, and picked up a few Malaysian League titles across that same stretch too.

Before all that, Fandi had already turned down a shot at one of European football’s biggest clubs. In 1982, an 18-year-old Fandi trialled with Ajax, where the squad at the time featured none other than Johan Cruyff — then nearing the end of his playing career — alongside a young Marco van Basten. By the end of his three-week trial, he was reportedly the second most popular player at the club, after Cruyff himself. Ajax offered him a three-year contract, but Fandi turned it down, a decision he’s since called his biggest career regret. He instead went on to make history as the first Singaporean to play professional football in Europe with Dutch club FC Groningen, scoring against Inter Milan in a famous 1983 UEFA Cup win.

It’s also worth noting that Fandi’s wife — and the kids’ mother — is Wendy Jacobs, a South African-born former model. Between a football legend father and a model mother, it’s easy to see where Iman might have drawn the confidence to carve out her own path in music and acting, even while her brothers followed dad onto the pitch.

Football actually runs three generations deep in the Fandi family. Fandi’s own father, Ahmad Wartam, was a goalkeeper for the Singapore national team back in the 1960s — and decades later, all four of Fandi’s sons picked up the family trade too. Irfan (b. 1997, now with Port FC in Thailand), Ikhsan (b. 1999, currently at Thespa Gunma in Japan’s J-League 3), and Ilhan (currently with BG Pathum United in Thailand) have all gone on to represent Singapore at senior national team level. The youngest, Iryan (b. 2006, currently with Young Lions FC in the Singapore Premier League), is still working his way up through the age-group ranks.

From 15 August, users would no longer be able top up their SOCAR Wallets, though existing balances can still be spent before the end of August . Any leftover funds will be refunded or transferred over to a Trevo account, with the official refund process kicking off from 1 September. SOCAR says instructions on how to claim refunds will be shared through its official channels closer to that date.

In a statement, the company said new subscription purchases are no longer available, and that existing subscriptions will be discontinued as part of the closure.

SOCAR first launched in Malaysia back in 2018 through a partnership with SK Inc. The Korean company recently bought out all of its financial investors’ stakes in the Malaysian unit after the business failed to hit its public listing targets, reportedly as part of a $6 million debt restructuring.

Perodua president and CEO Datuk Seri Zainal Abidin Ahmad said the price revision is the result of improvements in operational efficiency and continuous improvement initiatives undertaken in close collaboration with local suppliers and partners — with all savings passed directly to customers.

“This price revision forms part of our ongoing efforts to ease the cost pressures currently faced by Malaysians,” he said, adding that all specifications and quality standards for the Axia remain unchanged.

While discounts are always welcomed, it is interesting to note that in this case it is the entry-level 1.0G that benefits the most from the price revision — which is a little different from the norm where higher spec variants tend to get the bigger savings from operational efficiencies. Nevertheless, Perodua has their reasons and we’ll take the savings!

What this does do is make the entry-level Axia a significantly more compelling buy. Previously priced at around the same level as an entry-level Proton Saga, the revised price of RM33,900 now makes it a noticeably cheaper consideration — and at RM4,700 less, it could help sway more buyers towards Perodua showrooms and keep their market share strong.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day bagged a huge chunk of Malaysia’s box office in its 4 days opening weekend with a Box Office of RM 30 million. Over the weekend, an estimated a million Malaysians flocked to catch Spider-Man: Brand New Day in cinemas, which is coined as THE EVENT OF THE YEAR by fans of the franchise and general moviegoers.

In a social media post, Irfan described the role of Salman as far more than just another character — calling it a major responsibility he carried throughout filming.

“Salman isn’t just another character to me, it’s a responsibility I carry on my shoulders. Not only because this is Vijay’s last film, but also because I’m aware I’m carrying my country’s name on a stage this big,” he said.

Irfan, whose full name is Muhammad Irfan Mohamed Zain, also expressed deep appreciation to all the fans and viewers who have continuously shown their support, encouragement, and kind words.

“To everyone who watched, cheered, sent messages, shared posts and believed in me — thank you from the bottom of my heart.

“You have no idea how much all of this means to me. Moments like this remind me all over again why I fell in love with acting,” he added.

Admitting he feels grateful and humbled by the warm reception, Irfan considers this valuable experience one of the sweetest blessings of his acting career.

“Jana Nayagan” has been screening in cinemas nationwide since July 23. Besides Irfan and Vijay, the film also stars Bollywood actors Pooja Hegde and Bobby Deol.

In other news, Irfan is set to appear in the action film “Terbang,” which tells the story of national rally racing legend Karamjit Singh, and is slated for release in cinemas on September 17.
